DEPORTE, ADOLESCENCIA Y SALUD CARDIOVASCULAR

The DADOS-C Project (Deporte, ADOlescencia y Salud Cardiovascular) is a complementary study of the 3-year longitudinal study (triennial 2015 - 2017) that has been developing LIFE research group - "Physical activity, fitness and health" from Jaume I University of Castellon called “Proyecto DADOS: Influencia de la práctica deportiva competitiva sobre la salud física, el bienestar psicológico y el rendimiento académico durante la adolescencia”.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the present project is to analyse in a multidisciplinar way the influence of the physical activity regarding to traditional and novel cardiovascular health biomarkers, as well as the cognitive ability of the adolescents. Due to the longitudinal design of the study, a range of specific cross-sectional and longitudinal objectives have been established, which will be achieved while complementing the 3 data collection established for the years 2016, 2017, and 2018.

  -  Cross-sectional objectives:

  • To analyse the association between the congitive ability (traditional and novel factors) and physical activity during adolescence.

  • To analyse the association between the cardiovascular risk (traditional and novel factors) and physical activity during adolescence.

  • To analyse the association between the congitive ability (traditional and novel factors) and physical fitness during adolescence.

  • To analyse the association between the cardiovascular risk (traditional and novel factors) and physical fitness during adolescence.

  -  Longitudinal objectives:

  • To analyse the development of the traditional and novel cognitive ability factors during adolescence and its association with the development of physical activity.

  • To analyse the development of the traditional and novel cardiovascular risk factors during adolescence and its association with the development of physical activity.

  • To analyse the development of the traditional and novel cognitive ability factors during adolescence and its association with the development of physical fitness.

  • To analyse the development of the traditional and novel cardiovascular risk factors during adolescence and its association with the development of physical fitness.

METHODOLOGY

DADOS Project (Deporte, ADOlescencia y Salud), even though its innovative character and the use of accelerometers to objectively evaluate the physical activity, did not included the assessment of cardiovascular risk biomarkers neither cognitive activity. Based on the current knowledge, we consider that the assessment of some of these biomarkers would mean a qualitative step for DADOS Project, because it would allow to explain some of the mechanisms that produce the benefits derived from the regular practice of physical activity.

Through the DADOS-C Project we aim to extend the data collection, including the analysis of different biomarkers in order to assess the effects of the regular practice of physical activity during adolescence regarding to the new cardiovascular risk biomarkers and the cognitive ability. According to the current knowledge and the accumulated experience in the first part of DADOS Project, our hypothesis stays on the fact that the level of physical activity in a subject during adolescence period is positively associated with a greater cognitive ability and a lower cardiovascular risk.
